Information from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Since 2014, there have been no local cases of measles and rubella infections in the Republic of Azerbaijan as a result of large-scale preventive measures against infectious diseases in the country. As a result, the World Health Organization included our country in the list of countries where these infections have been eliminated.
Since the beginning of 2023, the spread of measles disease has been observed in the European region, as well as in the neighbor countries such as Turkey, the Russian Federation, Iran, Kazakhstan and Georgia.
Regarding this, in Azerbaijan, cases of measles infection caused by people who arrived from other countries, mainly spreading among unvaccinated children, over the last year. It is known that prevention of any infectious disease is more effective than infection and then being treated for it. For this reason, according to the “Calendar of preventive vaccinations” in the country, children are vaccinated against a number of infectious diseases, including measles.
In order to protect children’s health and prevent cases of measles infection, it is recommended to vaccinate children who are excluded from vaccination for any reason with the MMR vaccine against measles, epidemic parotitis and rubella infections in medical institutions that provide ambulatory clinic services to the children’s population at their place of residence.
