Information of the Ministry of Health on measles vaccination of children up to 10 years of age in Azerbaijan

From the beginning of 2023, measles outbreaks have been observed in the European region as well as in neighboring countries such as Turkey, the Russian Federation, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Georgia.
Additionally, in recent months, infections related to imported cases from other countries have led to localized spread of the infection in various regions of Azerbaijan. Among the registered cases of measles virus infections in the country, complications in children at risk groups have been observed in rare instances, along with the development of bacterial infections, delayed treatment, or misdiagnosis.
We inform parents that, to ensure the protection of children's health and prevent the spread of infection, according to the current "Vaccination Schedule" in the country, all children at the ages of 1 and 6 should receive two doses of vaccinations against measles, mumps, and rubella.
For children who did not receive the first dose of the vaccine on time, vaccination should be administered as soon as possible, and upon reaching the age of 6, the second dose of the vaccine is necessary.
Simultaneously, it is advised to promptly administer the second dose of the vaccine to children under 10 years old who, due to any reasons, did not receive the second dose of the vaccine in time.
Furthermore, for children under 10 years old who did not receive both doses of the vaccine on time, it is recommended to administer the first and second doses with an interval of no less than 4 weeks.
For vaccinating children, it is recommended to approach medical institutions providing outpatient care to the pediatric population at their place of residence.
