A meeting was held at the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan with the UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan, Ms. Saica Faruq Abdullah.
Welcoming the guests, Minister of Health Teymur Musayev emphasized the multifaceted nature of relations between Azerbaijan and UNICEF: “Over the years, successful projects have been implemented in various areas, including healthcare, education, and the protection of maternal and child health.”
Teymur Musayev highlighted significant steps taken by the Ministry of Health to improve services aimed at protecting maternal and child health in Azerbaijan. He also pointed out that vaccines are imported to Azerbaijan through UNICEF.
The minister underscored the significance of COP29 held in Baku in November, noting the panel discussions organized by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization on the topic “Strengthening the Health Workforce's Capacity to Address and Respond to the Health Impacts of Climate Change.” Additionally, it was mentioned that starting from the 2024/25 academic year, the Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU) would offer a course titled "Climate Change and Health" for second-year students.
Concluding his remarks, the Azerbaijani Minister of Health expressed confidence in further strengthening cooperation in the future.
In response, Saica Faruq Abdullah recalled that UNICEF began its activities in Azerbaijan in 1993: “UNICEF remains committed to working closely with the Government of Azerbaijan to build a better future for children and create opportunities for their full potential to be realized.”
Praising the partnership level between Azerbaijan and UNICEF, Ms. Saica Faruq Abdullah highlighted the importance of the joint activities carried out within the framework of the 2021-2025 Cooperation Program in strengthening mutual relations.
At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed collaboration on priority areas.
