Health Minister of Azerbaijan speaks at health event held within COP29
A panel session titled "High-Level Parallel Event on Health and Climate Change" was held in Baku as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The event was attended by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Csaba Kőrösi, Azerbaijan's Minister of Health, Teymur Musayev, and other official representatives.
In their speeches, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Csaba Kőrösi highlighted the high-level organization of the global event. It was emphasized that for the first time, "One Health" would be the focal point of the high-level roundtable at COP29.
In his speech, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health, Teymur Musayev, noted that the development of early warning systems for disease forecasting and the establishment of resilient health systems to minimize the effects of climate change are crucial.
According to the Minister, promoting health is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals related to health at the national level and building stronger health systems. "One of the objectives of the 'Social and Economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022-2026,' approved by President Ilham Aliyev, is ensuring a healthy lifestyle for citizens," the Minister of Health of Azerbaijan emphasized.
