A meeting was held at the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan with leading specialists of high international repute in the field of headache disorders.
The meeting was attended by renowned scholars from Denmark, Germany, Belgium, and Italy, including Professor Messoud Ashina, Professor of Neurology at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and former President of the International Headache Society (IHS); Professor Zaza Katsarava of the University of Essen, former President of the European Headache Federation (EHF); Professor Jan Versijpt, Head of the Neurology Clinic at Brussels University Hospital and member of the EHF Executive Board; Professor Gianluca Coppola of Sapienza University, a member of the Headache Panel of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN); as well as migraine and headache specialist Sarkhan Amirguliyev, co-founder of the Azerbaijan Migraine Specialists Public Association.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of headaches and migraine, international clinical approaches in this field, as well as prospects for future cooperation.
At the meeting, Minister of Health Teymur Musayev emphasized that the country’s leadership consistently pays special attention and care to the healthcare sector, particularly to the development of specialized medical services. It was noted that within the framework of reforms implemented in Azerbaijan’s healthcare system in recent years, significant steps have been taken in the field of neurology, including the diagnosis and treatment of headaches. “Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the modernization of the healthcare system, the application of advanced international experience, and the provision of the population with high-quality medical services are among the main priorities of state policy. In this regard, cooperation with international experts is of particular importance for us,” the Minister stated.
The Minister also noted that such meetings contribute to enhancing the knowledge and skills of local specialists, strengthening scientific and educational ties, and promoting the implementation of advanced treatment protocols.
In turn, the guests highly appreciated the healthcare reforms being carried out in Azerbaijan and expressed their interest in expanding scientific and practical cooperation. It was emphasized that headaches (cephalalgia) cause significant socio-economic damage to society and are among the top ten causes of disability worldwide. To ensure effective treatment of headaches, the importance of professional training of healthcare workers, accurate diagnosis, and simple lifestyle modifications was highlighted.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on a number of issues of mutual interest.
