Head of Country Office of the United Nations Population Fund for Azerbaijan
A meeting was held at the Ministry of Health with the Head of Country Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for Azerbaijan, Ms. Mariam Khan. Greeting the guests, Minister of Health Teymur Musayev emphasized that Azerbaijan has been cooperating effectively with various specialized agencies of the UN, including UNFPA. Teymur Musayev noted that Azerbaijan has effective cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund in several areas, including the health sector.
The minister also highlighted that in November of this year, Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Emphasizing that 2024 has been declared the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" in Azerbaijan, Teymur Musayev stated that a number of events at the national and global levels are being dedicated to addressing the negative impacts of climate change this year.
In conclusion, the minister expressed confidence that the joint activities between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Population Fund will continue to develop effectively in the future.
Expressing gratitude for the warm üelcoming, Ms. Mariam Khan highly appreciated the level of partnership achieved between Azerbaijan and the UN Population Fund. According to her, UNFPA reaffirms its commitment to a long-term partnership with the Azerbaijani government in its multifaceted initiatives focused on demographic issues, promoting gender equality, and protecting women's health.
Mariam Khan also congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting COP29. According to her, this year's priority will be given to supporting climate resilience efforts aligned with UNFPA's comparative advantage to prepare for the COP29 conference.
During the meeting, there was an extensive exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
