Ukraine and Azerbaijan expand cooperation in the field of healthcare - a number of important documents were signed in Baku
As part of the working visit to Azerbaijan by a delegation led by the Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Liashko, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Health. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husyev, and the Head of the Azerbaijan-Ukraine Interparliamentary Relations Working Group, Alibala Maharramzade.
Welcoming the guests, Minister of Health Teymur Musayev noted that bilateral relations between the two countries continue to develop successfully in many areas. The minister emphasized that since the restoration of independence, friendly relations have been established between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, and effective cooperation has been built on a bilateral basis.
Minister Musayev underlined that President Ilham Aliyev attaches great importance to the development of national healthcare, stressing that modernization, digitalization, the enhancement of human capital, and the strengthening of the healthcare economy are among Azerbaijan’s top priorities.
Highlighting the significance of the visit of the high-level delegation led by Viktor Liashko, the minister stated that this visit would give a strong impetus to strengthening the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Ukraine in the field of healthcare, as well as to developing direct practical cooperation in the areas of pharmaceuticals, oncology, pediatrics, cardiology, and medical education. At the same time, it would create new opportunities for expanding collaboration between the ministries of health of both countries.
In turn, the Minister of Health of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the Government of Azerbaijan for the humanitarian assistance provided to his country. Emphasizing the high level of interstate relations, Viktor Liashko drew attention to the historical and traditional friendship between the two nations, noting that a vivid example of this is the organization of a rehabilitation course for Ukrainian children aged 7 to 17 deprived of parental care at the Sanatorium and Rehabilitation Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan.
Subsequently, an updated Agreement on Cooperation in the field of healthcare and medical science was signed between the ministries of health of the two countries.
The document was signed by the Minister of Health of Azerbaijan, Teymur Musayev, and the Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Liashko.
Emphasizing the significance of the Agreement on Cooperation, Teymur Musayev and Viktor Liashko noted that the main objective of the document is to strengthen the healthcare systems of both countries, expand the institutional framework, contribute to the improvement of public health, and implement joint cooperation programs. At the same time, the agreement establishes a legal framework for further deepening strategic partnership in the development of traditional medicine, the pharmaceutical industry, and medical education.
Within the framework of the visit, Memorandums of Cooperation were signed between the National Oncology Center of Azerbaijan and the National Cancer Institute of Ukraine, between the Azerbaijan Scientific-Research Institute of Pediatrics named after K.Y. Farajova and Ukraine’s “Okhmatdyt” Children’s Hospital, as well as between cardiology centers of the two countries.
In addition, a new Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Azerbaijan Medical University and Kharkiv National Medical University, covering areas such as student and specialist exchange and the implementation of joint scientific research projects.
The signed documents aim to strengthen long-term and effective strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of healthcare.
